DAYTONA IN NUMBERS

Before Performance Tech Motorsports prepares for their next challenge at the 12 Hours of Sebring, it’s time to take a quick look down memory lane with some fast facts from the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

The team completed a total of 721 laps across the 24 hour race at Daytona International Speedway, covering an overall distance of 2,567 miles. Cameron Shields set the team’s fastest lap of the race by clocking in a time of 1:44.609 during the 6th hour of the race. His qualifying time was over a full second quicker, with a time of 1:43.351, demonstrating the notable impacts of running in traffic. Breaking it down further, the team’s best first sector time was 24.706 seconds, 48.803 seconds in the second sector, and 30.563 seconds in the third sector. All three sector times ranked within the top 30 overall.

Pit stop strategy and tire longevity was the name of the game as the team conducted a total of 16 tire changes throughout the race, using a total of 64 tires. There were 29 pit stops total, with the drivers swapping out 11 times. Connor Bloum showed incredible perseverance by completing the longest stint in the car, jumping in at 11:16 PM and clocking out three hours and forty nine minutes later at 3:05 AM, with 7 pit stops taking place in between. The team’s fastest pit stop was recorded at 46.237 seconds, which was the 6th fastest pit stop in the LMP3 class and the 23rd fastest pit stop overall across all classes.

The Rolex 24 further proved that although sleep and rest is important, it is also hard to come by, as the drivers were only able to get approximately 4 hours of shut eye each over the course of the all-day event.
