Challenging Race for Performance Tech Motorsports at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Indianapolis, Indiana, September 19, 2023 - The Battle On The Bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway was a difficult event for Performance Tech Motorsports, who finished the race in ninth place. Alexander Koreiba and Connor Bloum each had great stints in the #38 Ligier JSP320s, showing off rapid pace while challenging at the pointier end of the field, but a series of setbacks ultimately curbed progress through the field.

Alexander Koreiba navigated the complex qualifying session on Saturday afternoon, which was plagued by a lengthy red flag that resulted in the drivers only having enough time to set one flying lap around the Indianapolis road course. Nevertheless, Koreiba got to work and laid down an impressive fourth-quickest qualifying time.

He was behind the wheel to take the green flag for the Battle On The Bricks, and expertly maneuvered through a treacherous opening lap, driving through unscathed as others around him faltered. Koreiba was running in third position for the majority of his stint before handing over the reins to Connor Bloum with 1h45min to go.

As Bloum took over, he had to complete two penalties shortly after, which hampered the team and put them down several laps. He continued to push forward and set rapid lap times, further showcasing the team’s performance and competitiveness. Koreiba returned in the driver’s seat with 36 minutes remaining to complete the final stint of the race, with the team performing a full service pit stop in the process.

“It was an amazing opportunity to be able to compete at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway,” said Alexander Koreiba. “We avoided some chaos on the opening lap and settled into a good pace, and we settled into a good rhythm in third place. The first pit window opened under a full course yellow but unfortunately our day took a turn. After some unfortunate penalties, we found ourselves in a spot where we needed a couple yellows and wave-by’s to be able to get back into the fight, but they just didn’t come our way. All in all, I greatly enjoyed my first IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship event very much.”

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to have been able to compete with Performance Tech Motorsports once again,” added Connor Bloum. “Although the outcome of the race was not what we were hoping for, we still demonstrated that we had a competitive package and had the capability of scoring a top result if things had gone in our favor. It was great to share the car with Alexander, and thank you to the whole team for all their hard work this weekend.”

The team will utilize their valuable track time from the weekend to prepare for the next upcoming round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in a few weeks time, as they shift their focus to Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta from October 12th to 14th.
