Podium Success for Performance Tech Motorsports at VIR in IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge

Performance Tech Motorsports left VIRginia International Raceway with another podium result added to their collection following Alex Kirby’s second-place finish in Race 2 this past Sunday in the IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge. Jonathan Woolridge also completed a strong drive and followed up with a fourth-place finish to wrap up the weekend, just 0.046 seconds shy of the podium.

The team and drivers braved the sweltering Virginia heat in the #38 and #7 Ligier JSP320s for Race 1, which came with its own set of challenges. Kirby was forced to retire from the race following a mechanical issue in the opening laps, with Woolridge finishing fifth after a hard-fought 45 minute battle.

Sunday’s Race 2 welcomed cooler temperatures, and another opportunity to fight for positions. After lining up 5th and 6th on the grid, Kirby and Woolridge quickly got to work as the green flag waved, and continued to make up ground as the race progressed. Kirby moved up into the Top 3 and further progressed to second place, while Woolridge fought tooth and nail all the way to the line to bring home fourth.

“What an awesome way to finish our weekend at VIR,” exclaimed Alex Kirby. “After a mechanical issue in Race 1, the team worked very hard in the crazy Virginia heat to get the car fixed in time for Race 2. It was great to get back out there and finish P2, and we were even in a position to challenge for the win in the final few laps. Big thank you to Performance Tech Motorsports for giving me a great car once again!”

“I had some great on-track battles out there today,” explained Jonathan Woolridge. “We started P6 after a tough qualifying session and crossed the finish line in fourth, just a mere 0.046 seconds off the podium. Racing at VIR was a great experience, and the #38 machine was stellar, reliable, and a total joy to drive all weekend. I’d like to thank the team for all their support and hard work this weekend, everyone involved in this program is so dedicated. Congratulations to Alex on his P2 finish!”
