The Penultimate Challenge: Performance Tech Motorsports at VIR
DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. (August 20, 2019) – Performance Tech Motorsports is en route to VIRginia International Raceway for the second to last IMSA Prototype Challenge race of the 2019 season.
Performance Tech Motorsports’ three Ligier JSP3 prototypes are locked and loaded for what calls to be a hot weekend at VIRginia International Raceway. The circuit features 17 tight turns, and 3.27-miles of high speed runs complimenting the downforce of the LMP3. Over the course of four events the team has faced nearly every circumstance racing has to offer leaving Performance Tech determined to walk away from this weekend with momentum for the season finale.
“I think this will be a good weekend,” Team Principal Brent O’Neill said. “We’ve always been strong at VIR in Prototype Challenge. We’ve got Blake and Max who work really great together. Cameron and James have had some rough luck this year that we want to turn around this weekend. Dean did amazing at CTMP and will have Kyle with him this weekend so I have no doubt he’ll be up to speed quickly. The guys have been working really hard back at the shop to get all three cars ready and we’re ready to stand on the podium this weekend.”
Driver Cameron Cassels, British Columbia, heads up the team’s championship charge in the No. 75 NorCan Electric LMP3 with co-driver James French, Sheboygan, Wisconsin. The pair currently sits seventh in the championship only five points behind fourth place. Cassels will once more have double duty this weekend, this time running the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series alongside Prototype Challenge. VIRginia International Raceway is both technical and taxing presenting a challenge Cassels is eager to except.
Just three points behind the No. 75 NorCan Electric LMP3 sits Blake Mount, Littleton, Colorado, and his No. 7 Sobel Westex / Hotels.com LMP3. Riding the momentum from their best qualifying to date at Round 4 the duo aims to obtain their first pole of the season. Mount and co-driver Max Hanratty both have competed at VIRginia International Raceway in the past promising a strong weekend for the pair.
The No. 19 Kerr Industries LMP3 of Dean Baker, Ontario, and Kyle Masson, Windemere, round out the Performance Tech Motorsports VIRginia International Raceway lineup. Baker has shown consistency over the course of season, progressively running faster and cleaner laps each round. His refined race craft will be put to the test at the ever technical VIR.
The penultimate IMSA Prototype Challenge event begins on Friday, August 23. The drivers will have Practice One at 10:55 am ET followed by Practice Two at 5:50 pm. The team returns to the track Saturday, August 24 for qualifying at 10:45 am. The green flag falls later that day at 5:55 pm. The race will be broadcast on IMSA.tv through its entirety.
