Performance Tech Motorsports Will Miss Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix

BOWMANVILLE, On. (July 6, 2018) – Performance Tech Motorsport will not start the Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park this Sunday July, 8.

An incident in Turn 1 during Practice One cut the weekend short for Performance Tech Motorsports. The No. 38 Centinel Spine/Restitute Health Prototype sustained damage to the rear, front left and suspension. Team Principal Brent O’Neill made the call to fix the prototype back at the Deerfield Beach, Florida shop rather than on location in Canada.

“We’ve got 200 hours of work on the car since Watkins Glen and I just can’t put the guys through that again,” O’Neill said. “They did a great job last weekend after The Glen so we’re just going to switch our focus to the MPC guys and work on some podiums there. We hate to see the weekend end like this but after such a hard hit it’s the right choice for everyone.”

Kyle Masson was in the cockpit at the time of the incident. He walked away from the car under his own power and was cleared by medical at track. No further treatment was deemed necessary.

Performance Tech still has a full weekend of work ahead of it at CTMP in the IMSA Prototype Challenge Presented by Mazda series. Masson is teamed up with his father, Dr. Robert Masson in the No. 11 MPC. Cameron Cassels is joined by Trent Hindman in the No. 7 LMP3. The duo previously ran in the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge series together and finished second in the Grand Sport class. Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA and Canada star Roman de Angelis will run with Leo Lamelas in the Charles Wicht Racing/ Performance Tech LMP3 entry. Stephen Dawes and Howard Jacobs are set to run in their respect MPC entries.

Qualifying for IMSA Prototype Challenge Presented by Mazda takes place at 1:35 p.m. ET Saturday, July 7. Race Day is Sunday, July 8, with the green flag set to drop at 10:30 a.m. The one hour and 45-minute sprint race is the fourth of six installments in the 2018 calendar season. With the points championship running tight in both the MPC and LMP3 class, this weekend will play a major turning point for the leaders. The race will be broadcast live on imsatv.imsa.com followed by a delated FOX Sports 2 broadcast Thursday, July 26, 8 p.m. ET.
